Železné Dveře is the first of three commissioned paintings depicting the main room of this short lived, but commanding night spot opened in 2000. As he'd been part of Chapeau Rouge additions, Hetzel managed the remodel of the Železné Dveře, or Iron Door, from an abandoned and destitute 14th century wine bar to a modern, flowing and dynamic night club located steps away from Prague's Old Town Square. The paintings are done from sketch, photos and memory of the artist who led the club renovation. He and his crew spray painted the walls chrome gold and round brushed on a gloss finish infused with glitter. The lighting and ambiance graced a sleek and elegant main room accentuated by its elevated lounge seating areas balanced by the long and graceful bar. His role in the construction gave Hetzel familiarity with the Iron Door which grew when he accepted a job to manage the first two years of the establishment which became, like the Chapeau Rouge before it, a destination for international expat, tourists and locals to meet and share the nightlife. The paintings demonstrate the artist's attention to patrons' characters and mannerisms. Like his Chapeau paintings, many of the individuals portrayed are based on actual characters from the ZD. The painter seeks to capture the spirit and air of the club where a select crowd regularly chose to happen.
